Cookie Policy
The short version: we use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, understand how people use Carvia, and (only if you allow it) show relevant marketing. You control most of this from the cookie preferences link in the site footer.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small file placed on your device when you visit our site or use our app's web views. "Session" cookies expire when you close your browser; "persistent" cookies stay until they expire or you delete them. We also use similar technologies — local storage, pixels, and SDK-based tracking in the mobile app — covered by this policy under the same term, "cookies," for simplicity.
2. Categories we use
| Category | Purpose | Can you turn it off? |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Keeps you logged in, secures your session, prevents fraud, remembers items in an in-progress booking. | No — required for the site to function. |
| Performance/Analytics | Understand how people use Carvia (which pages, which features) so we can improve it. | Yes, via cookie preferences. |
| Functionality | Remember preferences like search filters, display settings, and dismissed prompts. | Yes, via cookie preferences. |
| Advertising | Measure and, where enabled, personalize marketing (on our site and, where applicable, third-party sites). | Yes, via cookie preferences. |
3. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by vendors we use to run the platform — analytics providers, our payment processor's fraud-prevention scripts, and (if enabled) advertising partners. We use Google Analytics for site analytics; you can opt out using Google's browser add-on, and our use is subject to Google's own privacy terms.
4. Managing your preferences
- On our site/app: use the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer at any time to turn categories on or off (necessary cookies can't be disabled).
- In your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies in settings — note this may break login or checkout functionality on Carvia and other sites.
- Do Not Track: we don't currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals differently from your in-app cookie preferences, since there's no consistent industry standard for interpreting the signal.
5. Mobile app
The Carvia mobile app uses comparable device-level technologies (SDK identifiers, local storage) for the same purposes described above. You can manage ad-tracking permissions through your device's OS-level privacy settings (e.g., iOS App Tracking Transparency).
6. Related policies
This policy works alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers how we handle the information collected through cookies once it's in our systems.
7. Changes
We'll update the "last updated" date above when this policy changes, and for material changes we'll follow the notice periods described in our Terms of Service.
